Team Member Activities
Home Visits: Volunteers visit children who are enrolled for assistance in their homes. Spending time in the home gives the volunteer a chance to interact with the children and their families and appreciate their challenging situation.
Assessing Children: Village Care trains team members to work with African volunteers and help families living in remote villages assess orphans in their care. The VCI "Quick Assessment Guide" helps to identify childrens needs and to define a plan to assist the children to thrive, rather than survive. Volunteer team members are helping VCI to make certain each child enrolled in our program is getting proper assistanc, and follow up visits in a timely manner by training community members to use this Guide for periodic check-ups on the children.
Community Discussion: Village Care believes that community discussion is a great forum for change. Team members may work with African volunteers to assist with Open Space discussion sessions, where the community identifies projects they will focus on to improve their overall health and economic well-being, and put in place project
goals and a community-driven plan for how to
achieve those goals.
Additional discussions are held with the youth of partner schools or communities. These discussions provide the youth with a forum for asking questions they may not ask at home, and to discuss subjects that are not typically discussed in a family setting in much of Africa.
Team members are encouraged to share their own life experiences with the youth. Many women's groups also gather for discussionswith female team members as well as the men of the community partnering with male team members for great conversations.
Orphanage Visits: Team members visit orphanages and care homes that are partnered with Village Care. The purpose of these visits is primarily to assist and train administrators in documenting their critical needs children and assessing the others in their care.
Team volunteers may also organize recreational events for the
children, and provide emotional support and love.
Volunteers may implement projects in orphanages, such as cleaning the building, doing laundry, helping with meals, organizing requested tutoring sessions, etc.
And so much more!
