• Children are particularly affected by the AIDS pandemic, there are an estimated 11.4 million orphans due to AIDS in Sub-Saharan Africa. -UNAIDS 2008

• Each year, over one million people die of malaria, most of them young children in sub-Saharan Africa. -CDC 2008

•HIV/AIDS orphans deal with the trauma of losing a loved one, stigmatization. These factors increase the risk of poverty and disease. -UN 2008
