Lugazi Ladies: Necklaces from Uganda

In the remote village of Lugazi, Uganda, this small group of women work to create beautiful necklaces made from recycled paper. These women struggle in a country were 37% of the population lives below the poverty line, life expectancy at birth is 51 years, and the average income is about $300/year.

Village Care International, Inc. has worked to ensure that these women can sell their necklaces at a fair price here in the U.S. With the profits from these necklaces, the Lugazi Ladies (Bwavu Mpologoma), have been able to rise out of poverty and support their families and their community.
